Danish and German Energy Efficiency Businesses join Forces
Copenhagen/Berlin. To commonly strive for a more energy efficient Europe is the declared common objective of the [newly founded] Danish alliance of energy efficiency businesses SYNERGI and the German business initiative for energy efficiency (DENEFF).
Practical Experiences and political positions have been shared at a joined workshop in Copenhagen this week. One big common concern is the pending implementation of the European Union’s energy efficiency directive (EED) and obligations of the European Union’s Clean-Energy-Package. Founding members of SYNERGI are the Danish companies Danfoss, Grundfos, Rockwool and Velux whose German subsidiaries are also members of DENEFF which represents more than 170 companies.
“Denmark and Germany have been regarded as climate leaders in Europe. But in the last years both countries neglected to push energy efficiency as a prerequisite of a successful energy transition. Thus, Synergi and DENEFF share the common mission to strengthen the role of energy efficiency in their home countries’ and the EU’s energy and climate politics” says Katrine Bjerre M. Eriksen, Managing Director SYNERGI since March.
“The climate crisis does not tolerate further delay. The needed technical solutions are ready. Danish and German companies are global trailblazers this field. Both countries would profit from ambitious energy efficiency policies – both economically and regarding their image in the world. Our bilateral exchange enforces us to motivate our governments and the EU to act more consequently”, adds Martin Bornholdt, Managing Director of DENEFF.
In the upcoming months the national implementation of the EU directives on energy efficiency (EED), energy performance of buildings (EPBD) and National Energy and Climate Plans (NECP) will be a focal point of the work of both organizations and their other european partners
